During long-term operation, valves are prone to internal leakage, external leakage, sticking during opening and closing, and incomplete valve actuation due to factors such as media corrosion, erosion, wear, and improper installation. Proper maintenance can significantly extend service life and ensure operational safety.
I. External Leakage (Stuffing Box / Flange Leakage)
Common causes include filler aging, bolt loosening, and seal gasket damage. Remedial measures:
Regularly tighten the gland bolts and replace high-performance packing materials such as flexible graphite and aramid.
Clean and flatten the flange faces, replace any damaged gaskets, and ensure even distribution of load.
II. Internal Leakage (Failure to Close Properly)
Commonly observed in cases of seal face wear, scratches, or the presence of contaminants. Treatment method:
Clean impurities from the valve cavity;
Grind and repair the sealing surfaces, or replace the valve disc and valve seat;
Avoid using shut-off valves or ball valves to forcibly regulate high-solid-content media.
III. Sticking and Inflexible Operation of the Valve
This is often caused by rust seizure, lack of lubrication, bent valve stems, or obstruction by foreign objects. Maintenance recommendations:
Regularly apply lubricating oil or grease to the valve stem;
Regularly operate valves that have been idle for extended periods to prevent them from seizing due to rust.
Clean pipeline weld slag and debris before installation.
IV. Daily Maintenance Recommendations
Establish a valve ledger to record model, installation location, and maintenance schedule.
High-temperature, high-pressure valves shall undergo regular leak-tightness and strength tests.
Regularly inspect the circuitry, air supply, and signal feedback of smart valves to ensure they are functioning properly.
